---|---|---|
Comfreya Member | Has anyone experimented with plasterite by using lime hydrate instead of Plaster of Paris? Reason I ask, is that I am experimenting with lime plasters for my garden wall, and will be making my own cob house in the near future using lime mortar and render. I am thinking that by putting crystals in the lime mortar cavities needed for the foundations, it could turn your whole house into a full on plasterite device. It seems to work with cement, so why not lime, which is much more earth friendly, pliable and all round aesthetically pleasing. If you just used them to make pieces with, it would also be able to sit outside without having to coat with resin or wax. Its also quite inexpensive. At the moment, my lime mortar is made up of 1 part lime hydrate, 3 parts beach sand – mixed through together first, then enough water to make a nice even paste. It sets initially like wet sand, but over the course of 24-48 hours it hardens up quite a bit. | |
